Arizona Cardinals March Scouting Report
David Vohs
3/22/2023

Well, the new season and free agency period has been mild at best for the Cardinals. They have lost OL Cody Ford (Bengals), DL Zach Allen (Bronco), CB Byron Murphy Jr. (Vikings). There is a lot of time left in FA so more movement is expected. Also lost were WR A.J. Green, DE J.J. Watt, OG Justin Pugh, and C Rodney Hudson.

The Cardinals re-signed the following players: RB Corey Clement (1 year deal), OL Kelvin Beachum, OL Will Hernandez, WR Greg Dortch, and PK Matt Prater.

New players being added: From the Eagles: LB Kyzir White and WR Zach Pascal. Also OL Hjalte Froholdt and DL Kevin Strong.

I suspect the Cardinals have more work to do in FA. They also have to decide where to trade WR DeAndre Hopkins.

In addition, the Cardinals still hold the #3 pick overall and I'm sure are fielding some calls to move down. Would this disappoint me? Probably, but it depends where. The Cardinals need to rebuild and rebuild with quality long term football players. Looking ahead to the 2023 NFL Draft, the Cardinals have brought in DC Jonathan Gannon as their new head coach. The Cardinals have 8 draft picks upcoming in the 2023 Draft. Significant needs are DL, OL, RB, CB, WR, and CB (yes twice!).

I fully expect the Cardinals to take DL Will Anderson Jr (Alabama) at #3 and then watch 31 more players go until pick #34 where I would imagine they take the best player available and I'd like to see that be an OL. I'd like the Cardinals to get back to the Dennis Green philosophy to select players from very good and well coached teams that will succeed in the NFL. The Cards sit at the #3, #34, #66, and #96 in the first 3 rounds. They could go heavy Alabama and grab EDGE Will Anderson (Alabama), RB Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama), CB Tyrique Stevenson (Miami) and OG Andrew Vorhees (USC - tore his ACL so this may be early and he's a prospect for 2024) and I'd be thrilled with the first 4 picks. They could also grab the best Cornerback available at the beginning of the second round and take a good back later in the draft. Lots of options.

The Cardinals have filled in a few free agent spots but they are seriously behind in getting a main roster put together. QB Kyler Murray will not be starting the season. QB Colt McCoy and QB Derek Blough will be fighting for the starting spot.

More updates to come prior to the 2023 NFL Draft coming I believe from Kansas City.

End.
