Houston Texans July Scouting Report
David Trojanowsky
7/19/2023
Only days until training camp. The big question is if ORG Kenyon Green can go. Still trying to feel his way through minor knee surgery. If he is a go, the O is a go. If not, it becomes an early training camp interesting negative. The interior of that O line has been a problem for years.
Just having QB C.J. Stroud in the quarterback room is reason for optimism. All observations concerning Stroud have been promising. He will be one of those QBs you will want on your team if you can get him at a decent price.
RB Dameon Pierce will start but his Achilles heel is blocking. That means RB Devin Singletary will have a role and therefore have fantasy value. The Texans convinced RB Xazavian Valladay of Arizona State to come in as an undrafted FA. With 4.46 in the forty, this guy can make this team. RB Dameon Pierce runs so violently there should be room for a second goal line tailback to emerge.
The Texans will start the season without a number one WR. Can WR John Metchie III or WR Tank Dell show promise as a future big-time talent?
Will a number one WR emerge? Word out of OTAs is that Stroud favors WR Nico Collins at this point.
Edge Will Anderson Jr. will help the D. He may be their only difference maker on the D unless CB Derek Stingley Jr. and S Jalen Pitre emerge.
The Texans have some pieces. With so many struggling teams in the AFC who knows what will happen?
End.
