Los Angeles Rams Late August Scouting Report
Layton Pang
8/30/2023
Ready for some REAL football! Los Angeles went 0-3 in the pre-season as they sat all of their starters and other important players to keep them healthy for the opener. The final cuts were made to get to the 53-man roster but the Rams will definitely be making more transactions before the September 10th game in Seattle. Let’s take a look at the current Fantasy positions.
QUARTERBACK: QB Matthew Stafford has had a healthy and productive summer and is ready to get back to his 2021 form. QB Stetson Bennett went through expected growing pains in his pre-season action and will be the number two quarterback heading into the season. Stafford has been going as a QB3 but if he stays healthy, he could produce low end QB1 numbers.
RUNNING BACK: RB Cam Akers has dedicated himself this summer and is primed for a good season. Second year RB Kyren Williams will be the backup followed by RB Ronnie Rivers and rookie RB Zach Evans. The Rams released veteran RB Royce Freeman. Cam could be a value pick in Fantasy Drafts as his ranking is low.
WIDE RECEIVER: WR Cooper Kupp is good to go for the opener as his prior hamstring injury is healed. WR Van Jefferson will start opposite Kupp but the number three receiver could be either WR Tutu Atwell or rookie WR Puka Nakua. WR Ben Skowronek and WR Demarcus Robinson will provide depth. A healthy Kupp is a top five receiver.
TIGHT END: TE Tyler Higbee is the unquestioned starter and has sleeper Fantasy value. TE Brycen Hopkins, TE Hunger Long, and Rookie TE Davis Allen make this position deep for Los Angeles. Allen has potential to develop into a star.
KICKER: The Rams cut UFA PK Tanner Brown so the current roster is void of any kicker. Los Angeles will pick up a veteran kicker this week.
DEFENSE: DC Raheem Morris will have a very young unit led by All-World DL Aaron Donald. LB Ernest Jones is the other veteran but after that some youngsters will need to step up. DB John Johnson returns to Los Angeles and will hopefully return to his former star status. Donald and Jones are the only IDPs worth drafting but keep an eye on DB Cobie Durant as a sleeper. This unit could use some veteran help.
Most of the players that played in the pre-season were cut or are buried on the depth chart. McVay saves his stars for the real games so hopefully they go to Seattle and pull off the upset. I completed two Drafts and have my two big ones coming up. Enjoy with friends and dominate your league. Love and blessings to my family. Miss you Pops and Scratch! Aloha!
End.
