New York Giants March Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
3/23/2024

Here is the Giants update for March:

With free agency frenzy dying down, Big Blue begins to focus on the draft in April. There is much discussion as to what the Giants will do with the 6th overall pick. They have done their due diligence with the top 6 quarterbacks in the draft. Will they trade up, trade down or stand pat? Stay tuned! I do believe they need to draft a WR1 with guys like Harrison Jr, Nabers and Odunze on the board. Take a second tier quarterback in the draft and develop him. QB Daniel Jones has an injury history that is simply too significant to ignore, especially the 2 neck surgeries. Cut ties next year and move on.

The Giants signed QB Drew Lock to help transition any injury timeline Jones needs as he rehabs a torn ACL. Personally, I don't think Jones should be rushed back to action. I like what the Cardinals did with QB Kyler Murray as he came back from an ACL injury. Lastly, they need to draft a quarterback, as they plan for the future. The second tier QBs are McCarthy, Penix and Nix. McCarthy will be gone, but I like Penix a lot.

The days of RB Saquon Barkley are over. He signed a contract with the hated Eagles, which was much more than the Giants were willing to pay. To backfill him, Big Blue signed RB Devin Singletary who had a nice year with Houston in 2023. RB Matt Breida walked so RB Eric Gray remains. I am not sold on Gray, so the Giants need to draft a tailback in the 3rd round to fill out the tailback room. They might go after a low-priced veteran instead.

The receiving corps is still in need of a true WR1. I hope this is addressed in the draft. WR Wan'dale Robinson, WR Darius Slayton and WR Jalin Hyatt are the best of the rest. WR Isiah Hodgins was released. WR Parris Campbell was a bust signing and walked.

TE Darren Waller is contemplating retirement. This is a huge red flag. I hope he retires, and we move on. He is immensely talented, but cannot stay healthy. They have addressed this position in the off season but no big names.

LB Brian Burns was acquired in a blockbuster deal. He will provide a nice pass rush tandem with LB Kayvon Thibodeaux. With DT Dexter Lawrence anchoring the middle of the defensive line, this will be a point of strength for the defense.

LB Bobby Okereke was a great signing last year. He played every down and was a tackling machine. They have some young depth here that will continue to develop.

CB Adoree Jackson was not re-signed. Young CB Deonte Banks is an exceptionally talented player, so they need to get someone on the other side. S Xavier McKinney left so they will need to fill that hole with either a veteran signing or someone already on the roster.

That's it for now. More to come in April after the draft...

End.
