Free Agent signees: QB Trevor Knight, TA&M, CB Sojourn Shelton, Wisconsin, TE Ricky Seals-Jones, TA&M, CB Gump Hayes, ASU, WR Carlton Agudosi, Rutgers, WR Krishawn Hogan, Marian, CB Ryan Lewis, Pittsburgh, DT Collin Bevins, NW Missouri St., C Lucas, Crowley, North Carolina, DT PasoniTasini, Utah, LB Tre’Von Johnson, Weber St, S Drico, Johnson, CFU, RB James Summers, East Carolina, S Cyril Noland-Lewis, LTech, S Ironhead Gallon (love that name!) GA Southern, TE Steven Wroblewski, S. Utah, T Jonathan McLaughlin Vtech.
Looking at some of the draft grades, obviously the pick of the year was WR Marvin Harrison Jr. He grades out at an A+ and I’m very glad the Cardinals did NOT trade down for more picks. Great pick here.
EDGE Darius Robinson, Missouri – in a class that was weak in EDGE rushers, the Cardinals need help here immediately. Robinson lacks some athleticism, but his motor is always running and is very intense on the field. That’s a great thing for the Cardinals. Pressure on the QB is always good. Grade A-
The Cardinals had a chance to grab a top-notch corner in this draft and kept moving back and not taking the top talent. CB Cooper DeJean was there, CB kool-Aid McKinstry was there and nothing. They waited for CB Max Melton from Rutgers so I’m going to be very very aware of him and see how this turns out. CB Max Melton DID hold WR Marvin Harrison Jr to 4 catches and 25 yards! That has to say something. He’s very athletic and should show versatility across the backfield positions. We’ll go with a "B" here just because he has some proving to do.
RB James Conner has some competition and help in the backfield now. RB Trey Benson from Florida State was drafted in the third round and has a great build, size, and can be speed and between the tackles. I see him getting 25-30% of the carries early in the season and maybe expanding from there…. Great pick Grade: A
OL Isaiah Adams joins the Cardinals but I was very curious why they didn’t draft OL Cooper Beebe here (who went 2 picks later). Isaiah has bounce around and does know the next pick from the same school…. So we’ll see: Grade C
TE Tip Reiman (love the name!) – Illinois –6’5" monster selected at the TE position and I really like this pick. 1) he has an OL with him (last pick) but 2 he’s mean and nasty. He will help in the running game and perhaps save TE Trey McBride for the passing game! (not that McBride can’t block!). You will se Reiman line up in short line offensive sets and goal-line as well as running downs. I like this pick! A- from me!
Last one I’m going to grade is CB Elijah Jones, CB Boston College. Seeing the film on him I really like this pick. Youth, speed, aggressive, and 6’ 2" tall! I’m going to give this draft pick a B+ I’ll be watching this kid! Is his jersey available?
Okay, a couple more: S Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, TTech – D we didn’t need another safety right now and I hope this pick was for special teams… Grade D
EDGE Xavier Thomas – Clemson – good lineage and a real need area so depth is good. Could be a rotational player. Grade B-
OL Cristian Jones, on the other hand an offensive line taken at pick 162 could be a huge deal. This pick adds depth to OL Paris Johnson and OL Jonah Williams. 6’5" 305 pounds and can play either tackle position is a great thing for pre-season and depth during the season. I predict he makes the team and makes the team better.
That’s all the time I have today…. More soon!
Go Cardinals!
End.
