May Report 2024 – Draft results version!

Well, in a city that LOVES it’s football, they must be very happy with the recent changes happening in our nation’s capital around the Commanders.

Round 1 • Pick 2 (2) • QB Jayden Daniels LSU

Round 2 • Pick 4 (36) • DT Jer'Zhan Newton Illinois

Round 2 • Pick 18 (50) • CB Mike Sainristil Michigan

Round 2 • Pick 21 (53) • TE Ben Sinnott Kansas State

Round 3 • Pick 3 (67) • G Brandon Coleman TCU

Round 3 • Pick 37 (100) • WR Luke McCaffrey Nebraska

Round 5 • Pick 4 (139) • LB Jordan Magee Temple

Round 5 • Pick 26 (161) • SAF Dominique Hampton Washington

Round 7 • Pick 2 (222) • EDGE Javontae Jean-Baptiste Notre Dame

Okay, the pick of LSU QB Jayden Daniels was a small shock but not much of one. I am sure the team went back and forth on dropping down, selecting one of three quarterbacks, but finally settled in on the right choice. QB Jayden Daniels, once his coaching staff told him to take some chances, has blossomed into an amazing on the field leader and dynamic player. He will be exciting to watch and I hope he can bulk up and take the pounding of the NFL. Grade A+ in my book.

In the second round, the Commanders selected DL Johnny Newton – Illinois. Some people wonder how he fell out of the top 32 but it wasn’t a far fall, and benefits the Commanders and Daniels (getting the ball back) with a great defensive talent. This disruptive (in football) youth should make a great Day 2 pick for the Commanders and get the Commanders back in the chase for an NFC

Still in the second round, the Commanders took CB Mike Sainristil with the 50th pick. A huge need for this team and getting Sainristil here is amazing. Lauded by Nick Saban as the best pound for pound player in the draft, I think says it all. Grade A

Finally, in the second round, the collection of great talent continued by selecting TE Ben Sinnott (53rd pick) out of Kansas State. Smart pick here. TE Zach Ertz can do only so much and needs some help and they got it! Great ball skills and a bit of an attitude and will catch passes in traffic and that’s what they need. Sinnott could yield good things quickly.

I like the addition of WR Luke McCaffrey as well…. That’s another A in my book especially in round 3.

The rest of the picks look solid but time will tell. More soon, but I like the direction this team is headed!

I really like what the Commanders have done and their outlook!

Go Commanders!

End.
