Los Angeles Rams June Scouting Report

6/16/2024

Summer time is here! After drafting 10 players and signing 16 undrafted free agents, the Los Angeles Rams recently completed OTA’s and are on a break before gearing up for training camp in July. Even though this team lost future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald to retirement, there is much optimism for the upcoming season. HC Sean McVay and GM Les Snead have done a masterful job in the last two drafts finding stars and quality depth pieces with their selections. Let’s take a look at current Fantasy positions.

QUARTERBACK: QB Matthew Stafford is the franchise quarterback and seeking to upgrade his current contract. Los Angeles always takes care of their stars and I think this issue is resolved without Matthew missing any practices. QB Jimmy Garoppolo will be the backup; however, he is suspended the first two games of the regular season so QB Stetson Bennett will be the number two quarterback to open the season. With a healthy Kupp, improved Nakua, and beefed up offensive line, Stafford has the potential for a MVP type of season. I would not be surprised if he produced QB1 Fantasy numbers while being drafted like a low end QB2. Matthew offers great Fantasy value at his current draft rankings.

RUNNING BACK: RB Kyren Williams appears to be healthy heading to training camp. Los Angeles drafted RB Blake Corum to be their number two back and also added RB Boston Scott in free Agency. The Rams also return RB Ronnie Rivers and second year RB Zach Evans so the running back room is crowded. As long as Williams is healthy, he should be the lead back; however, if Kyren misses time with injuries like he has his first two seasons, Corum is capable of taking over. I think Scott will be the primary kick and punt return man leaving Rivers and Evans to possible contend for one roster spot. Rives is a less talented version of Williams and Corum so I think Los Angeles should keep Evans. Zach is the biggest and fastest back on the Rams roster and has more upside than Rivers. Williams produced RB1 numbers last year and I think he will do so again this season. Corum is one of the top handcuffs in the Fantasy world and could put up stats as the third down back.

WIDE RECEIVER: WR Cooper Kupp is finally healthy after dealing with multiple injuries the past two seasons. Kupp just turned 31 but he is still an elite route runner and one of the craftiest receivers in the league. Second year WR Puka Nakua is coming off a record breaking rookie season and is poised have another great season. Nakua has been training with Kupp in the off season and it looks like the work is paying off. WR DeMarcus Robinson resigned with the Rams and will compete with WR Tutu Atwell to be the number three receiver. Rookie WR Jordan Whittington will contribute on special teams right away while trying to earn playing time with the offense. Nakua is ranked much higher than Kupp but I think Kupp might have better draft value. Both Nakua and Kupp could produce WR1 numbers in 2024.

TIGHT END: TE Tyler Higbee is coming back from a severe knee injury and might not be ready to open the season. In Tyler’s absence, the Rams will lean on some combination of second year TE Davis Allen, free agent TE Colby Parkinson, and veteran TE Hunter Long. None of these players have done much to date so we will have to wait and see how Los Angeles uses them in this offense.

KICKER: The Rams kicking game struggled last season after losing Matt Gay in free agency so they drafted PK Joshua Karty hoping he becomes a quality starter. The offense should be productive so Karty has potential to be a quality Fantasy kicker.

DEFENSE: Los Angeles lost one of the best defensive players of all time when future Hall of Famer DL Aaron Donald retired. Knowing one player could never replace Donald, the Rams drafted several defensive players to shore up the defensive line. It all starts with DE Jared Verse and DT Braden Fiske. The Florida State teammates were the first two picks of the 2024 draft and will be counted on to contribute immediately. They will join second year players DT Kobie Turner and ED Byron Young to give the Rams and young and talented front four. LB Ernest Jones is the new leader of this unit so hopefully Los Angeles gives him the extension he deserves. The secondary will look a lot different with the additions of CB Tre’Davious White, CB Darious Williams, and DB Kamren Curl through free agency and drafting DB Kamren Kinchens. This squad will have growing pains but also has the potential to be really good.

After a surprisingly successful 2023 season, the Rams are thinking Super Bowl in 2024. HC Sean McVay and GM Les Snead had the draft fall the way they hoped and according to McVay after the draft felt they went 10 for 10 with their picks. With a defense heavy draft, there might not be many Fantasy rookies for the Rams but Corum has potential to be a productive player. Training camps are on the horizon and Fantasy football will be in full swing soon so have a safe summer and see you next month. Love and blessings to my family. Miss you Pops and Scratch! Aloha!

End.
