Los Angeles Rams July Scouting Report
Layton Pang
7/21/2024

Let’s go camping! The Rams summer break is just about over and the players and coaches are preparing for the start of training camp. HC Sean McVay and GM Les Snead had a busy and successful off season and are ready to get to work for a Super Bowl run in 2024. Let’s take a look at current Fantasy positions heading into training camp.

QUARTERBACK: QB Matthew Stafford continues to work with the organization on a new contract. Matthew has participated in all of the team activities so hopefully the contract issue is resolved soon. QB Jimmy Garoppolo has been working as the number two quarterback and hopefully only plays in the preseason. QB Stetson Bennett continues to make progress after missing his rookie season. Stafford should have a new contract before week one and could be a productive Fantasy quarterback.

RUNNING BACK: RB Kyren Williams is good to go for training camp after dealing with a foot issue earlier in OTA’s. Rookie RB Blake Corum has impressed the coaching staff and is slated to be Kyren’s backup. RB Boston Scott might be the main kick returner, which means RB Ronnie Rivers and second year RB Zach Evans could be fighting for a roster spot. Not much has changed for this crowded running back room. Williams has potential to be a top five Fantasy back but needs to stay healthy. Corum is one of the top handcuffs for Fantasy teams with Williams on their roster.

WIDE RECEIVER: WR Cooper Kupp continues to lead this room and should form a deadly tandem with WR Puka Nacua. Many Fantasy drafts have Puka going in the top two rounds and Kupp being drafted a round or two later. WR DeMarcus Robinson should be the third receiver, with WR Tutu Atwell providing big chunk and gadget plays as the fourth option. Rookie WR Jordan Whittington will contribute on special teams right away while trying to earn playing time with the offense. Nacua and Kupp could both produce WR1 numbers in 2024. I would love to land one or both players in my Fantasy draft!

TIGHT END: Not much change from last month. TE Tyler Higbee is far from 100% and could miss a good portion if not all of training camp. As mentioned previously, TE Davis Allen, free agent TE Colby Parkinson, and veteran TE Hunter Long will compete for playing time during Higbee’s absence.

KICKER: Rookie PK Joshua Karty has a clear path to be the Ram’s starting place kicker similar to SP Ethan Evans had last season as the starting punter. Both players were drafted with not much competition in training camp. Karty has a great opportunity for Fantasy relevance.

DEFENSE: It will be a new defensive unit for Los Angeles with the departure of future Hall of Famer DL Aaron Donald and DC Raheem Morris now the Head Coach in Atlanta. New DC Chris Shula has been with the Rams for many years but this will be his first as Defensive Coordinator. Rookies DE Jared Verse and DT Braden Fiske and second year players DT Kobie Turner and ED Byron Young have a great opportunity to make names for themselves. LB Ernest Jones is the veteran leader but it does not look like he will get the extension he deserves so hopefully he has an All-Pro season so Los Angeles gives him a new contract. The secondary could have four new starters from last year. CB Tre’Davious White, CB Darious Williams, DB Kamren Curl, and rookie DB Kamren Kinchens could be the starters on opening day. How the defense performs will have a lot to say about the Ram’s Super Bowl aspirations.

There hasn’t been a lot of activity since last month but things will definitely pick up when training camp opens. I am hoping Stafford’s contract situation is resolved before then. This time of year is filled with anticipation and optimism for both Rams fans and Fantasy Owners. Be safe and enjoy the rest of summer and get ready for some football! Love and blessings to my family. Miss you Pops and Scratch! Aloha!

End.
