Houston Texans Early August Scouting Report
David Trojanowsky
8/6/2024

The Hall of Fame game is in the books and the Texans have suffered more unwelcome news. TE Teagan Quitoriano avoided severe injury, but will miss the pre-season with a calf injury. He has been a bad luck guy, last year experiencing groin and oblique injuries. Rookie TE Cade Stover has demonstrated that he could catch and block. The former Ohio State offensive tackle has a history with QB C. J. Stroud. If he improves his blocking, he could become the Texans best tight end this year.

Last week DT Denico Autry was suspended six weeks for PEDS violation. Ouch. That partially explains the return of FA DE Jerry Hughes. Expect Jerry to be effective, this old guy will get a lot of play. Autry will be missed; he is a key member of the DL. DT Foley Fatukasi needs more help. Still looking for more DTs to join the party. If not, the D will not stop the run.

Have enough interior offensive line upgrades arrived yet? OT Blake Fisher has taken LT Laremy Tunsil's position until Larry decides to start playing. LG Kenyon Green looks like he is serious so far. The Texans keep signing OL. With OT Andy Heck hurt they just signed FA T Cameron Erving.

RB Cam Akers demonstrated his old moves in the Hall of Fame game. Can he be part of the RBs corp?

Rookie S Calen Bullock demonstrated he could deliver impact hits in the Hall of Fame game. I thought his coverage was noticeably tight. The team believes if he can start, they can move S Jalen Pitre to a hybrid S/CB position.

Second year WR Xavier Hutchinson has looked good in camp and against a live D in the Hall of Fame game. He is a big receiver, knows how to get separation and is gaining the confidence of the QBs. Look out WR John Metchie III!

End.
