Seattle Seahawks Late August Scouting Report
Rick Watts
8/27/2024
With all the preseason games in the books everything looks as expected in Seattle. The starting offense had only a few snaps in the final game while the starting defense has seen quite a bit more action.
QB-
The word is out that QB Geno Smith is trending up. He is probably not a steal in most fantasy drafts anymore. The new scheme and playbook will play to his strengths and he will likely approach being a top 10 fantasy quarterback.
The offensive line is a good part of that equation too with the starting line likely being LT Charles Cross, LG Laken Tomlinson, OC Connor Williams, RG Anthony Bradford, and RT George Fant. There may be some shake up here, but even this group is a huge improvement over the line that started at the end of last season.
RB-
All indications are that RB Ken Walker will also benefit from the new line and playbook. RB Zach Charbonnet has not seen many snaps and may outperform from where he is typically being drafted. So do not let him fall too low. RB Kenny McIntosh showed exactly what the new focus on blocking is creating with his 56 yard run against the Browns. McIntosh may get some bump just from that play, but Charbonnet is not to be overlooked.
WR-
There may be some snoozing going with WR Tyler Lockett. There is good reason for buzz on WR DK Metcalf and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but Lockett is a resting veteran. There is no doubt that Lockett will come out of the gates with a vengeance. I definitely think this is DK's shot to be who he should always have been, and JSN is up and coming and likely to break out. But that does not mean that Lockett is past it. Watch him fall in your drafts but do not let him fall too far.
TE-
My pick is still to grab TE Brady Russell late. It is more reasonable to think that TE Noah Fant will have a bounce rather than Russell taking over. And TE Pharaoh Brown has a good shot at being more than a blocker. But I think Russell has a shot at breaking out despite still being available near the end of most drafts.
K-
PK Jason Myers is not a fan favorite. He is fine. It was actually hard hearing the glowing evaluation of him by the announcers of the final preseason game. But he is fine. He should be a top 15 kinda guy.
D-
The upcoming cuts on the defense are going to be painful. There are many guys here who have really showed up but will still end up off the final roster. This is a fresh start with many solid contributors. It is hard not to be overly enthusiastic, but especially starting out against a couple of weak or at least inexperienced teams this team D could gain value early. Certainly they will make for a fun start for Seattle fans against the Broncos and Pats and maybe even Miami, but reality will hit hard with Detroit, Giants and San Fran right after. Starting out 4 and 2 would be a very nice thing for an uncertain year.
Go Hawks!
End.
