New York Giants Late August Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
8/28/2024

Here is the second August update for the Giants after their 3rd preseason game against the New York Jets. Big Blue lost 10-6. No starters of significance played so it was a battle for roster spots. The G-Men did not release anyone of note on cutdown day, but they will be likely scouring the waiver wire and looking to add a few players released by other teams today.

QB Daniel Jones played one half during the preseason. He looked rusty early in the game but appeared to settle down thereafter. Having a plethora of receiving weapons coupled with an improved offensive line bodes well. Taking all of this into consideration, he is still coming off an ACL injury and should be drafted as such. I don't believe he is any better than QB24 at this point. If he shows signs of promise, stash him during the season for insurance. At this point, he is only draftable perhaps in 2 QB leagues.

RB Devin Singletary is the lead back with a few youngsters nipping at his heels. He will get early down volume but not entirely sure of his 3rd down role with promising rookie RB Tyrone Tracy Jr backing him up. With this in mind, draft Singletary as a low-end flex or RB3 for your team. Tracy is an intriguing late round stash for those in deeper PPR leagues. RB Eric Gray isn't draft worthy at the moment.

WR Malik Nabers is the real deal as he made several impressive catches in the Texan game. He will be a game changer and get plenty of targets. I even believe he is quarterback proof. With that being said, he should be drafted as a WR2 with potential WR1 upside. WR Wan'dale Robinson will get work out of the slot and be productive. He should be considered a WR4 with upside as he a polished, slippery route runner. WR Darius Slayton and WR Jalin Hyatt will have smaller roles and shouldn't be drafted. But they have upside and could be roster worthy during the season.

With the retirement of TE Darren Waller, this position is average and does not have any draft value. Perhaps TE Daniel Bellinger will be TE2 worthy during the season as his role becomes defined. Keep an eye on rookie TE Theo Johnson!

The defense is very good in spots. The addition of EDGE Brian Burns will be a big boost to the pass rush. The secondary is in flux and I expect a cornerback or two added post cutdown day. This is a group on the rise but not draft worthy. They should be streamable however. Let's see how new DC Shane Bowen does with this group.

PK Graham Gano is decent, but probably no better than PK12 with the questions surrounding the offense.

That's it for now, good luck with your drafts!

End.
