New York Giants April Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
4/19/2025
Here is the April update for Giants as the NFL draft draws near:
There has been much discussion as to what the Giants will do with the 3rdhoverall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. I do not believe they will trade out of that spot unless they receive a ton of draft capital in return. It is not a strong quarterback class, and the feeling is Big Blue will take a generational talent like CB/WR Travis Hunter or EDGE Abdul Carter in the 3 hole. Those players will immediately make the team better. Carter offers rare 2 way versatility and Carter will make the defensive line truly elite(like the old days with Stray, Osi, Tuck, etc) The GMen will likely add a quarterback, offensive tackle and defensive tackle later in the draft.
The quarterback room has received a big experience upgrade with the additions of QB Russell Wilson and QB Jameis Winston. Wilson is on a one year bridge deal and Winston signed a cheap 2 yr contract. The Giants may trade up to get a developmental prospect at the end of Round 1 like QB Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss or QB Jalen Milroe from Alabama. If a quarterback is drafted, it will likely signal the end of Tommy DeVito's run in NY.
RB Tyrone Tracy Jr is lead back, but he doesn't profile as a 300 carry back. Do not be surprised if the Giants dip into the talented running back pool in this year's draft. RB Devin Singletary is good veteran insurance.
The receiving corps currently consists of WR Malik Nabers, WR Darius Slayton, WR Wan'dale Robinson, and WR Jalin Hyatt. It's a solid group with Nabers as the centerpiece. Hyatt is currently on the outside looking in. He needs to step up and save his roster spot.
TE Theo Johnson will be an X factor this year. Expect the veteran quarterbacks to unlock his impressive physical skills and watch him go. He could be a dangerous offensive weapon. TE Daniel Bellinger is a serviceable backup.
I do not expect OT Evan Neal's 5th yr option to be picked up. He has been extremely disappointing given his lofty draft status.
DT Dexter Lawrence is the best nose tackle in football. On the outside, he will have EDGE Brian Burns and EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux. If Carter is drafted, there is a chance Kayvon is traded on draft night for a pick. He also has a 5th yr option that needs to be addressed. I believe another cornerback will be drafted to provide competition. The additions of CB Paulson Adebo and S Jevon Holland have really improved the secondary.
That's it for now. Enjoy the draft and more to come in May...
End.
