New York Giants Late August Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
8/24/2025
After almost 20 years of scouting the NY Giants for Fantasy Football Mastermind, it is with a heavy heart that I inform FFM readers of my retirement. I will be a loyal FFM subscriber however and will continue to root for Big Blue!
Here is the second August update for the Giants after their 3rd preseason game against the New England Patriots. Big Blue won in convincing fashion 42-10 and finished the preseason undefeated. Clearly, the record doesn’t mean much but the energy and enthusiasm which all the players exhibited was palpable. There are major roster cutdowns to be done and it will be interesting to see how these dominoes fall.
QB Russell Wilson did not play. Russ isn’t draftable and not worthy of QB2 status in my opinion. There are much better options in your draft. Rookie QB Jaxson Dart played for most of the first quarter and looked very good. He has a cool demeanor and swagger which fits perfectly in the NY market. He is also extremely gifted physically. I think he will be an excellent dynasty or late round auction league selection. He will be starting either mid-season or the beginning of next year. I for one cannot wait. QB Jameis Winston and QB Tommy DeVito finished the game and looked solid. There are rumors of Winston inquiries via trade but they have been refuted by Giants management. I think DeVito will not accept a practice squad assignment and will be looking for greener pastures elsewhere.
RB Tyrone Tracy Jr is RB1 but was held out of this game. He is a decent player but no more than RB3 or low-end flex play at this point. Rookie RB Cam Skattebo played and looked solid. I look for him to push Tracy for touches, especially at the goal line. That being said, he is an intriguing late round pick due to his higher ceiling. Currently, consider him a RB4 with upside. RB Devin Singletary is veteran depth and isn’t draftable.
WR Malik Nabers was held out of the preseason as he managed several minor injuries. Rest assured he will be ready to go Week 1 and will enjoy the upgrade at the quarterback position. He is a clear WR1 and should go off the board by the end of Round 1. He could potentially lead the NFL in catches and yardage this year. WR Wan’dale Robinson will man the slot and be very useful in PPR formats as a WR3 or low end flex play. WR Darius Slayton is more like a WR6 while WR Jalin Hyatt will be lucky if he makes the team.
TE Theo Johnson will be the starter and possesses TE2 traits with upside. He is big and fast. The GMen have several other young athletic tight ends like TE Greg Dulcich and TE Thomas Fidone. This puts veteran TE Daniel Bellinger in danger of not making the team. There is a lot of competition for roster spots with this group.
The defense has top 10 potential and is very young. The group of DT Dexter Lawrence, LB Brian Burns, LB Kayvon Thibodeaux, and rookie LB Abdul Carter will generate tremendous pressure on opposing quarterbacks and yield a good number of sacks during the season. In addition, the secondary upgrades should yield some turnovers making this group an intriguing draft day option.
PK Graham Gano looked good kicking some long field goals and there are younger options to pursue in your draft as he falls outside the top 12.
Good luck with your drafts, it’s been a privilege. Health and happiness to all!
End.
