The Cowboys actually signed a player early as they gave a new contract to RB Javone Williams. It is a 3 year 24-million-dollar contract with 16 million guaranteed but only 4 million will count towards the cap this season.

PK Brandon Aubrey was offered 7.5 million per season, but he wants 10 million. I doubt any team will pay a kicker this much, but Aubrey is not an unrestricted free agent. They can do a first-round tender and pay him 8.1 million. I doubt any team would trade a first-round pick and sign him to 8.1 million. They can also do a second-round tender and pay him 6.4 million. It is unlikely that he will be on a different team next season.

The most important contract will be for WR George Pickens. They are likely to place the franchise tag on him which will count 28 million against the cap but they then would have until July 15^th to sign him to a long term deal. He has the same agent as DE Micah Parsons so this will likely be a contentious negotiation, and a possible holdout is looming.

Free agency is right around the corner so we will see if Jerry's interest in spending supersedes Stephen's interest in saving every possible penny of precious inheritance. I think it will be clear in the first couple of days of free agency which direction this team will go in. They need major help on the defensive side of the ball and only 2 picks in the first 3 rounds. They will need to use free agency if they want to be legitimate contenders. I think Jerry wants to win but Stephen is more concerned about money. We will see who wins out.
