Week #2: Acquiring & Trading Targets
Michael Nazarek - 9/11/2018
In this feature, I’ll do my best to offer 1-3 players (QB, RB, WR, & perhaps a TE) to target to acquire via trade as well as one player to trade away…
Â
Â
-- Look to Acquire --
Â
QB DeShaun Watson, HOU - He got off to a shaky start, but will be fine once he gets his feet under himself and WR Will Fuller returns. The soft upcoming schedule helps him too.
Â
QB Cam Newton, CAR - Newton was OK against a better than expected Cowboys defense on Sunday. Despite the loss of TE Greg Olsen, Newton will produce more results (getting WR Devin Funchess more involved will happen too) against easier defenses. He's a very interesting BUY LOW candidate at this time.
Â
RB Kareem Hunt, KC - Take his poor game and BUY LOW here. He should get more involved in the passing game, as he's simply too good a player to not be. Just do not overpay for him. I want to see him play one more time before I'd go "all-in" for him.
Â
RB Kenyan Drake, MIA - Take his average game without a score and BUY LOW here NOW. He still saw most of the workload, and remains a dynamic talent. Getting him now might be the only time you might be able to get him cheap!
Â
WR Devin Funchess, CAR - The loss of TE Greg Olsen makes him even more important to the team's passing game, so BUY LOW coming off his poor game. He will get better quickly!
Â
WR Josh Gordon, CLE - He only saw 3 targets and had the one catch for a score. That was the bad news. The good news? He played nearly 80% of the team's snaps and will only get better as the season progresses. BUY LOW NOW before he blows up!
Â
WR Allen Robinson, CHI - He only caught 4 passes on Sunday night, but one was a biggie. He's healthy and will be very productive moving forward. If his owner didn't watch the Sunday night game, perhaps he may be willing to move him via trade due to his mediocre stats (4-61). If that is the case, jump on it!
Â
TE Travis Kelce, KC - You know the deal here. Anytime a STUD at a position begins the season with a poor game, swoop in and BUY LOW. But like Hunt, do not overpay for Kelce. I want to see him play one more time before I'd go "all-in" for him.
Â
TE David Njoku, CLE - Some may say he had a really bad game with only a 3-13 stat line, but the real stat is the fact he saw 7 targets throughout the entire game while playing 88% of the snaps on Sunday when he only averaged 45% last year. BUY LOW if you need a TE!
Â
Â
-- Look to Trade --
Â
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, TB - SELL HIM HIGH to the QB Jameis Winston owner in your league if you have a solid alternative at QB. His value coming off that big game will NEVER be higher!
Â
QB Tyrod Taylor, CLE - While he produced 26+ fantasy points, he still didn't get the win, and looked very average more often than not. Rookie QB Baker Mayfield will start sooner than later. Mark my words.
Â
RB Austin Ekeler, LAC - Keep him if you need him, but be aware he's still only the change of pace to RB Melvin Gordon for the Chargers. When he doesn't score and the Chargers aren't far behind, he won't produce much. That makes his top 10 game for a RB a nice SELL HIGH point.
Â
RB Devonta Freeman, ATL - I'm worried about his "loose" knee, so if you can move him for a decent price, do it now before he tears that knee and becomes totally worthless.
Â
RB Phillip Lindsay, DEN (r) - Grab him and keep him if you need him, but if you don't, then SELL HIGH to the nervous RB Royce Freeman owner in your league.
Â
WR DeSean Jackson, TB - Take his 2-TD game and SELL HIGH HARD! He already has a concussion, and we all know he doesn't work well with QB Jameis Winston, so when he returns, he could become pretty much useless again.
Â
WR Phillip Dorsett, NE - Take his nice game and SELL HIGH. When WR Julian Edelman returns, Dorsett goes back to being the #4 option at best in the passing game of the Patriots.
Â
WR Willie Snead, BAL - He is the #3 WR for the Ravens, so if you an grab him and SELL HIGH, good for you. Why? He will be inconsistent in his production at best in 2018.
Â
TE Will Dissly, SEA (r) - He was the #2 TE of the week, just behind Gronk. So... pick him up and hold him if you need him. That said, I'd sit him this week to ensure he's not a one-week-wonder (I think he may be), but if you don't need him, then SELL HIGH to an Olsen or Walker owner. You get my drift here...
Â
End.
